Power to the Posse: Celebrating the Art and Activism of Shepard Fairey

The gallery behind New York’s first mobile art truck, Soak Your Buns, is bringing a pop up Shepard Fairey retrospective to Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

Among the leading artists of his generation, Shepard Fairey began his “Andre the Giant has a Posse” propaganda campaign in 1989 while attending the Rhode Island School of Design. Since the early 1990’s, Fairey and his posse have bombarded New York City with different iterations of the Andre the Giant image.

Power to the Posse will survey Fairey’s career, from his early days of punk and skateboard stickers to politically provocative later compositions. The show will explore themes of propaganda, music and social justice with a curated selection of screen prints and works on wood, metal and canvas.

The show will run from May 6th to 8th at 1035 3rd Avenue, at the corner of 62nd Street.

Gallery hours for this show will be from 10am to 5pm every day starting Friday, May 6, 2016 and continuing through Sunday, May 8, 2016.
